What is GFC Therapy?
GFC stands for Growth Factor Concentrate. It is an advanced evolution of PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy that delivers a significantly higher concentration of growth factors directly to the hair follicles.
While PRP concentrates platelets from your blood, GFC takes this further by using a specialised activation and extraction process to release the actual growth factor proteins โ including PDGF, VEGF, TGF-ฮฒ, and EGF โ in a purified, highly concentrated form. This results in faster, stronger stimulation of the hair follicles.
๐ฌ GFC delivers 10โ30x more growth factors than standard blood concentration, compared to 5โ10x for conventional PRP. This difference is why GFC is considered the superior treatment for moderate to severe hair loss.
GFC vs PRP โ Key Differences
| Feature | GFC | PRP |
|---|---|---|
| Growth factor concentration | 10โ30x (very high) | 5โ10x (standard) |
| Contains red/white blood cells | No (purer) | Yes |
| Inflammation after injection | Minimal | Mild possible |
| Results speed | Faster | Good |
| Best for | Moderate to severe loss | Mild to moderate loss |
| Procedure time | 60โ75 min | 45โ60 min |
How GFC is Prepared
Blood Collection
60โ80ml of blood is drawn from the patient's arm using specialised GFC collection tubes.
Centrifugation
The blood is spun to separate plasma from blood cells. The platelet-rich layer is carefully extracted.
Growth Factor Activation & Extraction
A specialised activator releases the growth factors from the platelets. The concentrate is then filtered to remove cells, leaving only pure growth factor proteins.
Scalp Injection
The highly concentrated GFC is injected into the scalp with fine needles, targeting areas of hair loss. Numbing cream is applied beforehand.
Benefits of GFC
Who is GFC Best For?
- Patients with moderate to severe hair thinning
- Those who have tried PRP with limited results
- Post-FUE transplant patients wanting to maximise graft survival
- Patients with androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness)
- Anyone wanting faster, stronger results than conventional PRP
